Human Rights Defense Center Fights Abusive Money Practices in Jails

If you have been arrested and processed through a jail  (this does not apply to the state or private prisons) in Arizona in the past 18 months and had your cash taken from you at the time of arrest, and then returned to you on a debit card where you were then charged fees to access your own money, the Human Rights Defense Center wants to help you recover your money and end these abusive practices. The Human Rights Defense Center is filing a lawsuit against the company (NUMI) handling these cards and charging the fees.    They are seeking some Plaintiffs from Arizona.  Some people don’t realize that if they leave their money on the card, a monthly “maintenance” fee will eventually eat up all the funds.  Here’s a link to a story about the abusive fees:
